Really excited about this brand new series - the Favorite Records Series - where artists list 10-15 of their favorite records. Rules are at least one album needs to contain a synth or drum machine of some kind.
First up is the multitalented musician and actress Sophie Thatcher, who we're huge fans of over here at Synth History. She plays a young Natalie in Showtime's psychological drama series, Yellowjackets, and she's also got a brand new single out, "Pivot & Scrape", which you can check out here.

Peter Ivers - Becoming Peter Ivers
A friend of mine showed me the original “In Heaven” song recorded by him and I was floored. I went deep into his lure and watched all of the New Wave Theatre videos. He has an earnestness and charm to his songs. I immediately felt nostalgic hearing this record for the first time.
Flaming Tunes - Flaming Tunes
This album is a huge influence on my own music. The beats in this album are huge inspiration. It all feels very organic and visceral. The album feels very haunted and like a world I feel comfortable in.
Kleenex -liliput
I was listening to this album a lot for the first season of Yellowjackets. I imagined Natalie would’ve loved this band and used pictures of the band members for reference to the costume designer. This album is my go to “get hyped” music or if I need a pick me up.
Sparklehorse- Vivadixiesubmarinetransmissionplot
"Weird Sisters" is one of my favorite songs ever. I grew up on this album so it holds a very special place in my heart. Every song on it is a masterpiece. I love you Mark Linkous.
The Dead C - Trap Door Fucking Exit
This is my go to “fuck you” album. If I’m pissed off and want to feel purposely sad I put this on and it’s the most satisfying listen. Makes me feel less alone in my anger.
John Bender- I Don’t Remember Now/ I Don’t Want to Talk About It
My twin Ellie showed me this album a couple years back and I’ve been a huge fan ever since. This album feels very meditative to me; it often puts me in a trance when I’m writing.
Tall Dwarfs - Fork Songs
The song The Slide off this album is also one of my favorite songs. It’s so sexy and melancholy. Something about New Zealand 90s indie hits different. Anything Flying Nun I’m all here for. I think this is the third band I’ve listed off Flying Nun, so there you go.
Slapp Happy - Casablanca Moon / Desperate Straights
This album feels like a theatrical puppet show. Each song is so distinct and different one another. This album always is perfect for a bike ride or a long walk in the evening.
Peter Jefferies- Electricity
“Don’t Look Down” is my favorite song of the record. Whenever I want to turn inward I put on this album and it centers me. Peter Jefferies is a brilliantly honest musician.
Judee Sill - Judee Sill
This album is timeless. Her hi fi recording was way ahead of her time, giving her vocals an almost space like, dreamy effect. My boyfriend and I would drive around for hours in the mountain listening to this record, so it’s a very special and romantic record to me. Judee is an absolute genius.
